In all cases I'm aware of, PhD students can act as co-supervisors of master theses. Usually it's required that a professor is formally specified as the main advisor, both in the formal proposal and on the title page of the thesis document. The PhD student can be specified as an co-advisor on the title page.
SOAS PhD Digitization Project. SOAS is currently working with Proquest to digitize our entire collection of PhD theses. The results of this project will mean that theses will be made available to anyone to read, without charge, via SOAS Research Online.In addition, a copy will be added to ProQuest’s Dissertations and Theses online database, a very well established database used by students.

Many potential Ph.D. students are overwhelmed by the idea of writing a lengthy paper for their thesis. While a thesis does need to be long enough to thoroughly explore the topic at hand, the exact length of a Ph.D. thesis varies according to the school and program.
PhD theses are submitted to reception at the Student Services Centre, where they are checked, logged and then forwarded to the Graduate Studies Office. Providing examiners have been appointed, your thesis will be forwarded to the examiners within two days of receipt by the GSO.
In the case of PhD students this would act as confirmation of their doctoral status for re-registration in the following session. Entry of the student to the thesis pending period within the next year, subject to satisfying the requirements for the minimum period of study and having completed the research.
